Shade Reviews: Scary Stories you tell in the dark 2019

Scary Stories you tell in the Dark 2019 Dir: Andre Ovredal Producer: Guillermo Del Toro Starring: Zoe Margaret Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Dean Norris etc Based on the popular children’s horror anthologies of the same name, this movie is the best that PG-13 gets folks. I never read these books as a kid but I wish I had as this movie not only unraveled an entire anthology in the background of a plot, the film successfully uses excellent creature designs and effective world building to give you quite a good time. I must say the premise of the movie … Continue reading Shade Reviews: Scary Stories you tell in the dark 2019

Fire Emblem Reviewathon: Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (2003, GBA)

Fire Emblem Blazing Sword was the seventh entry in Nintendo’s turn based, strategy, rpg series. This was the first game in the series to be localized for an English audience. Most gamers in the west were introduced to Marth and Roy via Super Smash Bros Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube. Fire Emblem 7 was the second Fire Emblem game for the Game Boy Advance and the first of the two we would get in the west. Fire Emblem Binding Blade( FE6) was considered to be not worth localizing. As someone who is playing it right now in preparation for the … Continue reading Fire Emblem Reviewathon: Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (2003, GBA)

Dad of War: a splendid journey

Boy did I never figure I’d be coming back to God of War and  thinking that the newest title was the best one. God of War 4 or just God of War for Playstation 4, is a somber, beautiful, and violent journey through the realms of Norse mythology. Kratos, after killing the Gods of Olympus has tried to settle down and move past his previous sins and now must journey with his estranged son, Atreus to scatter his late wife’s ashes on the highest peak. However, things are never that simple for the former Spartan as his very presence and … Continue reading Dad of War: a splendid journey

Us: social commentary?

Us(2019) is a great new film that premiered last weekend. The main crux is that people have human doubles (called the tethered) that live underground and are literally forced to do whatever the original person is doing at all times. It is never explained how this has happened and this is all for the better. However, could there be social commentary hidden under this premise that arguably has some similarities to older horror films. The Day of the Dead comparisons are apt, considering the apocalyptic nature of the movie but at the same time, the specifics of the doppleganger’s plans … Continue reading Us: social commentary?

Aquaman Review: Unda the sea badadadada

Aquaman was a pleasant surprise. It was the first good DC theatrical release that I saw in years, that was engaging and fun. Imagine Black Panther meets Asgard underwater. I know it seems cliche but the comparisons between Aquaman and the Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther are really there. All involve a prince learning whether or not he is a worthy king. All three have fantastic arena/ collisseum fights. And all three are good movies. Please do not misunderstand me. I feel that the two MCU entries are overall fun films and I think they are slightly better. However, I … Continue reading Aquaman Review: Unda the sea badadadada

Ghostly Trio: Good Ghost Movies

ZOIKS SCOOOB ITS A GHO GHO GHOOOOOOOOST I love ghosts don’t you like ghosts? Before I start sounding like Jack Fenton and making bad ghost puns, let me just say, these movies are just three I really enjoyed. If you don’t like them, that’s cool. I like movies everyone hates all the time, and that doesn’t take away from how I feel about them. The great thing about all forms of art, is that your own likes and dislikes, are subjective. Now here we go : Insidious(2010) Holy boooooooooooo merang, Batman, this was an enjoyable film. There is something really … Continue reading Ghostly Trio: Good Ghost Movies

Knock Knock: Disappointing Pizza

I am a fan of Eli Roth, and I was looking forward to seeing Knock Knock. I admit as a young man, the attractive females were a part of the reason I wanted to see the film. But that doesn’t mean that I cannot recognize a good film. Eli Roth however, is a hit or miss kind of guy, in my opinion. I really enjoyed Cabin Fever and thought it was easily his best film I’ve seen that he has directed. I even sort of enjoyed Aftershock, as it was tense and a fast moving ride. I don’t hate dark … Continue reading Knock Knock: Disappointing Pizza

Anime Suggestions

Recently I have been on an anime kick and I have been enjoying it immensely. I’ve always really enjoy anime and manga but my taste has always been extremely basic. This is why I have had so much fun discovering new ones and finding out some new favorites. Here are a few suggestions to help you find new good shows. If you like shows like Naruto, or Dragon Ball, try My Hero Academia. This is perfect for the superhero buff too, as it is a take on the superhero genre from the East. This is fairly standard shonen fare but … Continue reading Anime Suggestions
