Into the Dark Ranking List

It is the spooky month of October, one of my favorite months of the year and the beginning of Fall. I am getting into the spooky spirit and decided to do a top 7 of the first season of the anthology series on hulu, Into the Dark. Produced by the notorious Blumhouse, this is Hulu’s answer to Black Mirror but leans more into horror stories based on holidays each month. The series has had a mixed reception but I  think that there are some good entries that are definitely worth your time. Whenever I see ratings on horror movies i … Continue reading Into the Dark Ranking List

Bookstore at the edge of memory pt 1

Gareth’s insomnia wouldn’t ever let up. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and glanced over morosely at his bedside table. The picture of a beaming woman stared back at him and he immediately looked away feeling the sting he always did when he looked at her. Gareth stumbled out of his bed nearly tangling himself further in a web of sheets and blankets. He also nearly tripped on a box of old photographs he could no longer bear to look at as he descended the stairs of his home. The walls were bare and cold and the emptiness of the home … Continue reading Bookstore at the edge of memory pt 1

Whining about polarization is a bad look

There are certain words that get a warm and fuzzy feeling to the elites in power, bipartisanship, American values, compromise etc etc. However, polarization has been a dirty word for longer than I’ve been politically active. The idea is that if we can’t agree on everything or anything and it causes conflict, this is SO BAD OMG OMG….. (extremely offensive aristocrat voice and fainting) Here is the dirty secret, polarization has always been with us. Guess what, we will never agree with everyone about everything and there are things on which we will get heated and angry about when discussing … Continue reading Whining about polarization is a bad look

Divisions and how to communicate better: A sermon on the dirtbag left, being a vulnerable man, and how to better be able to foster healthy communicatio and happiness

Did that title blow your mind? Did it make you roll your eyes and click off the site? Regardless of your reasoning I would like to take some of your time and talk frankly with you. I have had a lot of thoughts running through my head the past weekend. I was at my friends wedding, and I was dealing with social anxiety, feeling lonely, etc etc. I also was doing some serious self-reflection on how to be better in large groups and how to communicate better. A friend of mine was having some issues with his girlfriend and the … Continue reading Divisions and how to communicate better: A sermon on the dirtbag left, being a vulnerable man, and how to better be able to foster healthy communicatio and happiness

Favorite Ace Attorney cases 5-1

5. 6-5 The finale for the most recent game, Spirit of Justice, was the last Ace Attorney game to make me tear up. It is really ironic that Apollo Justice got more character development in games where his name wasn’t in the title but that is how it is. Not only does the final case have you literally facing the Queen in court, but it is also the eve of an actual revolution. The central theme of passing the torch and Apollo’s coming of age is truly memorable and I couldn’t feel better for the guy. I was always not … Continue reading Favorite Ace Attorney cases 5-1

Rant: Rise of Skywalker rumors

So I heard that the plot about Rey’s parents being nobodies is gonna get retconned. I am not surprised but still fairly annoyed at this. The toxic fanbase of Star Wars is gonna get a major retcon in the final episode of the his new trilogy and to be honest, they still will probably hate it. Honestly, I don’t know many people who didn’t really dislike this film and I am one of the few who enjoyed it that I know. I should emphasize that I do not love the movie but find it very fun. It is Star Wars … Continue reading Rant: Rise of Skywalker rumors

For a more compassionate and healthier masculinity

You’ve probably heard the term toxic masculinity used in feminist discourse to describe the behaviors and reinforcement of those behaviors that is taught to boys and young men that actually harms them and women. Often this subject is very touchy and is misrepresented by men who are not actually all that concerned with whether or not men can change their gender roles or how they express themselves to other people. I am a feminist and believe both that men can be masculine without being toxic and that men can have feminine behaviors and roles as well. I see no problem … Continue reading For a more compassionate and healthier masculinity

Dias de los muertos: Domingo 1+2

Cheers, Shade   June 21, 2054 My Darling, Every day that I remain away from you is a horror beyond anything that I could possibly have predicted. My political stances: Pt 2

Freedom of Speech: There is something quite insidious with how words are sometimes employed today and the free speech absolutists and the reactionary who weaponizes it are seriously annoying. Personally, I believe that freedom of speech is very important assuming that everyone comes to the table with the goal of learning and discussing their differing views. However, I think that absolutionists are very silly with how black and white they are about it. Even while recognizing the material disadvantages of the left, the left wing free speech warriors will defend their enemies and claim that this principle is something that … Continue reading My political stances: Pt 2

Feeling vulnerable and taking risks

I am often a huge hypocrite when I show derision for men who have trouble sharing their emotions. It is true that there is a subtle push for men to be far more assertive and less emotionally available. It is also true that men have emotions and that it is okay to have emotions. However, as men, we are encouraged to show certain emotions more than others. We are encouraged to be more aggressive and assertive and allowed to show anger more than most. Being sad and vulnerable is discouraged. Times have changed a lot and many men do not … Continue reading Feeling vulnerable and taking risks

My Political stances

I am writing out this in depth view of my political stances and ideals not just for the sake of any potential readers, but for my own sake as well. I feel like a good way to improve myself and understand where I am at is to write down what I am feeling and what I believe. I know this is frankly a bit self-centered and I am okay with that. I would prefer to understand the good and bad parts of my personality and my own values and view of the world then to never question myself. The rules … Continue reading My Political stances
